allright, hosers. i went to gw hq in nottingham last weekend, and i had the absolute wonderful luck to meet a bright young chap named mark owen. he works in the production studio at gw, and after a few games he offered me an 'after hours' tour of the design and production studio. as it stands, i have seen all that gw will be releasing for the next year and half or so.
first and foremost, the 40k tau and fantasy dwarves are getting new books. both should be out by spring, with the tau following the black templars release this winter.
tau are getting loads of new stuff. new sculpts for tau commanders, new weapon options for crisis suits, new wargear and sculpts for etherals, and two new options.
the first is sniper drones. didn't get to see the rules, but a big ass drone with an even bigger ass gun and a cool looking drone controller with his head inside a neat little machine. look ace. they are also getting a new allied species. the vespid. nasty looking 6 eyed guys with wings and s5 ap3 assault 1 guns. pretty cool looking. plus new plastic fire warriors, a few new sculpts. the stealth suits also got a new look, in plastic, and they are amazing. imagine the zentraedi battle pods (for those of you old enough to remember) and then go from there. plus the pirhana and the stingray (missle tank) are both going official and plastic next year.
dwarves are set for some serious rescuplts. the new plastics are amazing. gunners and crossbowmen come in one box and they look awesome, as do the new dwarf warriors. they are also resculpting some of the old dwarf lords and they look fantastic. new plastic cannon and mortar, and all sorts of cool stuff. that one is done, with the master proofs being printed out as i stood there. all the translation is done as well, so as i speak the books are being printed in poland right now. they might be out by christmas, but that is up in the air.
the rest of the stuff? new warhammer box, with about 80 miniatures. dwarves and goblins. new 3 part goblins, orcs, and chaos warriors. the new goblins and orcs are awesome. a few rules changes, not much, just cleaning up the close combat and magic phases. only big change is no more lapping round, because it is annoying and stupid. they are already playing with the new rules at the studio, and if you are real clever you can see it in a recent (or soon to be released) battle report in white dwarf with wood elves vs. orcs.
also a new plastic guard regiment out next year. look kind of like valhallans, but i was assured they weren't. i only saw three models, and they were command. they looked ok, but only in resin so i didn't get to see a painted one.
plastic wraithlord is in 3-up stage and should be out next summer. new templar plastics are awesome. rules aren't too bad either. they actually have to pay for their vows now, and they are a bit toned down.
that's most of what i saw. i also saw something that made me want to kill my self. they had a huge plastic 'recycling' bin that was full of half used plastic sprues. new terminator close combat, new plastic scouts, new templars, new wood elves... sick, as the workers get to root through them before they are recycled for their own private armies.
all in all, tons of fun. plus i snaked a ride on the staff bus from nottingham to birmingham (40 minutes or so) to games day uk in a month, and an invitation to the games day after party at bugmans. i am stoked.
so, in ending, screw you all. i'm going to games day!
